A Little Something (or A Lot) About What Goes on Most Peoples Bodies…

These are pretty bad looking ingredients.

Most skin lotions and creams list water as the first ingredient. As we all know, with standardized product labeling, the first ingredient is the most plentiful ingredient. That means, when we buy typical lotions we are mostly paying for water. We are also paying for plenty of wasteful packaging. I was surprised to find out that even distilled water can invite harmful bacteria into any formulation. Subsequently, commercial lotions and creams have a preservative to prevent mold and bacteria from forming within the product. Next, lotions need something to join that water with oils to make that lovely creamy consistency, an emulsifier is required to make that happen. The emulsifier is also what keeps the oils and water from separating. Emulsifiers are often artificial chemicals that are can be harmful. Preservatives often contain parabens and other harmful chemicals. In small amounts these chemicals are fine – unfortunately, these chemicals are also in our shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, shaving creams among other cosmetics that we use on our bodies. It all adds up.

Refyll is committed to using the safest, most natural ingredients possible. We use a naturally derived, eco-certified preservative in our conventional lotion, shampoos and conditioner. We only use a the safest possible conditioning emulsifier in our lotion and conditioner. We will continue to check on the safety of these ingredients. Our lotions, shampoos, conditioners and Castile hand soaps are unscented so we can add one of your favorite Refyll essential oil blends for a small up-charge or add your own scent at home. Bring your favorite container for us to fill. Purchase a re-fyllable container, or recycled/re-purposed jar from us. You will eliminate wasteful packaging and never have to pay for packaging again.
